Why do Bloggers REALLY blog?

I feel inclined to ask a rather simplistic question today, why do I blog?

In many ways it could be argued to be a twenty first century version of “how long is a piece of string?” yet I’m more inclined to see it has a time when you have to be brutally honest with yourself.

Is it for a sense of inclusion? – Through a connection to other bloggers and the blogs readers?

Is it for professional gain? – Through creating contacts and directing people to your professional website?

Is it for money? – Believe or not but, a number of web bloggers are starting to make a nice living through the ads on their blog.

Is it for cult status? – Through blogging on a specialist subject that I number of people care deeply about.

Is it because none of your friends will listen to your rants anymore?

I’m sure that psychologists and sociologists could give us many more possible explanations. But for me I think the new branding will go towards the answer for why I blog…

The New Branding

Writers Block title=

Now what is there to write about on a Monday morning? Of course when it comes down to it I could comment on the day’s news but for me that means two things:

1. That my blog is dependent on other websites and outlets for its content and if that is the case I might as well just comment on the news websites, as many other people do, instead of running my own.

2. That the main stream media has a monopoly on everything that is going on in the world.

Now I’m happy to comment sometimes when I feel I have something new and unique to add to the story, but when as a last resort I decide to write a commentary article I imagine it’s in desperation and not because I have something thought provoking to say.

A good article for if you ever run out of arguements convincing your friends why blogging isn’t a complete waste of time:

“great value – can’t beat the price

expand your reach – take your business global

find new markets – take advantage of the long tail to do what you really love

turn customers into evangelists

create dialog with your clients

find hidden opportunities – see find new markets above

force you to think about your business – an often overlooked benefit of writing about your stuff regulary

build relationships with your most vocal customers

replace yellow pages – know anyone under 30 who uses the yellow pages?

spread buzz

humanizing – puts a face and personality to the business

create top of mind awareness

build trust-based relationships

build time-based relationships

tap into strong branding power

take advantage of virtual word of mouth marketing”

Not exectly complete but it’s a good start
Note to self, add some later

Despite it’s accurately, it does seem a little below the belt

I ended up going a bit off course in the first post and did plan to, after bitching about other people that write them, write about my plans for the site.

My plan is basically to write about what ever comes to mind, in other words, periodic rants about eveything that I’m interested in which is pretty much everything.

Though I write it a conversational style, it’s more like “Dear Dairy” than “Dear Visiter”. If you happen to stumbal across the blog: WELCOME, it’s nice to see you.

It’s likely that the design and format of the site will change quite often; as soon as I get sick of the current design.

It’s likely I’ll end up writing near exculsively on politics, though I hope not too. I may try to improve my football reviewing and do a write-up ever so often of a Whitstable Town game: 14 POINTS CLEAR AT THE TOP OF THE KENT LEGAUE!
